Art lovers gather for new showing
by Justin Harris of the Sanders Co. Ledger
Ushering in the new quarter of Art on the Walls at Clark Fork Valley Hospital were art lovers and musical performances last Thursday in the main entrance of the hospital. Organized by the Sanders County Arts Council, publicity chairperson Joy Nelson took some time to introduce the new and returning artists who were present and thanked the public for their continued support of the quarterly gallery. "It is so great to see all the talent we have here locally," said Nelson of the paintings, photographs and stained glass brightening the hallways of the hospital for patients, staff and visitors.
As with openings in the past, this quarter was accompanied by performances by local musicians and piano students of teacher Heidi Mack. Mack joined recorder players John Meckler and Kari Zeiler for a recorder trio, performing a number of traditional tunes. Participating artists include Charlotte Beaudry, Barry Fowler, Andrew Gonzalez, Rachel Gonzalez, Richard Harter, Rodney Helterline, Gary Hensley, Jusy Horton, Brynn D. Kenyon, DeLyle Larson, Sue Honts Mann, Lores Porter, Lydia Shaw, Kyle Sivertsen, Katy Walton, Douglas Wilks and Glenda Wolverton.
The hallways were filled with art viewers, pausing before each piece to decide which would receive their vote for 'People’s Choice' award. Votes are cast in the guest sign in book throughout the quarter and the winner of the award will have their artwork featured on the cover of the next quarter’s program. The current program is graced by Plains High School senior Mahala Harris’s work entitled Strollin'. Some pieces are available for sale by filling out a reservation form. Artwork will be given to the purchaser at the end of the quarter.
The 2013 second quarter of Art on the Walls will be on display until June 25. For more information contact Joy Nelson at 5446654.
